Start with a strange fact about backtests. A backtest is a record of decisions made by someone who already knew how the story ended. Live trading is the same decisions — made by someone tired, scared, and wrong half the time. That gap is the cost.

Because the 9am version of you and the 3pm version of you aren't the same person. 9am-you builds a careful thesis. 3pm-you, watching it move against you, just wants the pain to stop. The thesis didn't change. The person did.

This is why "good idea" and "good outcome" drift apart. Most losing trades didn't start as bad ideas. They started as good ideas — held too long or sized too big by someone who couldn't stay calm.
