AI is not the edge. Method is.

"AI" is not the edge. Most "AI-driven investing" is one of two things: a buzzword stapled to an old strategy, or a black box promising to predict prices. We're building neither — and we're skeptical of anyone selling the second one. Here's the part that doesn't fit in a pitch deck: in a serious systematic operation, the model is the cheap part. The discipline around it is the moat. An example. Say a signal looks extraordinary on historical data — the kind of backtest that makes you want to size it big. The disciplined question isn't "how good is it?" It's "how many things did we try before this one looked good?" Test a thousand ideas against noise and one will look brilliant by pure luck. (We actually ran exactly that, on pure synthetic noise — best in-sample Sharpe 3.3, then −0.3 on data it had never seen. Nothing was ever there.) So before a signal earns a single dollar, it has to clear three bars: measurable, repeatable, and — the one that kills most of them — it has to survive data it has never seen. Most don't survive. That's not failure; that's the process working. We'd rather hold a few things we can defend than many that merely worked once. This is also why we don't frame what we do as prediction. No model reliably forecasts prices, and the ones that claim to are usually selling a backtest. What a system can do is narrower and more useful: read live markets faster than emotion can react, and act only when its conditions are met — without getting tired, scared, or bored at the moment a person would. AI is simply what lets that discipline run at the speed and breadth live markets now demand. The intelligence isn't in predicting the future. It's in refusing to fool yourself about the past.
